El Senador Bill Nelson busca parar cualquier perforación de petróleo en Cuba cerca de las costas de la Florida. El Senador ha presentado un proyecto de ley que responsabiliza a las compañías extranjeras que trabajen en Cuba de cualquier derrame que ocurra y dañe las costas de la Florida. Cuba y algunas compañías extranjeras se preparan para perforara 50 millas de las costas de Cayo Hueso. Bill Nelson y Bob Menéndez en su proyecto de ley retiran un fondo de 75 millones para este tipo de catástrofes y establece que los reclamantes deberán demandar directamente a las compañías por los eventuales daños que ocurran. El Senador Bill Nelson busca parar cualquier perforación de petróleo en Cuba cerca de las costas de la Florida. El Senador ha presentado un proyecto de ley que responsabiliza a las compañías extranjeras que trabajen en Cuba de cualquier derrame que ocurra y dañe las costas de la Florida. Cuba y algunas compañías extranjeras se preparan para perforara 50 millas de las costas de Cayo Hueso. Bill Nelson y Bob Menéndez en su proyecto de ley retiran un fondo de 75 millones para este tipo de catástrofes y establece que los reclamantes deberán demandar directamente a las compañías por los eventuales daños que ocurran. Varios Senadores han mostrado preocupación por un eventual desastre debido a la perforación en aguas cercanas a las de la Florida, otros congresistas han manifestado malestar por el ingreso de capital que esto pueda representar al gobierno de los Castro.
