El popular refresco fue inventado en 1885 por John Pemberton, un farmacéutico de Atlanta, Georgia. Pemberton hizo la fórmula original de Coca-Cola en su patio trasero. La fórmula original sí contenía cocaína, según el Instituto Nacional de Abuso de Drogas, un portal web del gobierno de EE. UU.
