Según una denuncia efectuada en la Fiscalía estadounidense, los datos de miles de conductores registrados en el estado de Florida pudieron haber sido vendidos a empresas privadas.
El Senador por el estado de la Florida, Bill Nelson, pidió investigar la venta de información personal por parte de la entidad automotor estatal.
Nelson señaló en un comunicado que era «inconcebible» que el Departamento de Seguridad de Carreteras y Vehículos Motorizados de Florida (DHSMV) haya vendido información personal de más de 15 millones de conductores con licencias de Florida.
El demócrata dijo que por lo menos 75 compañías privadas pagaron al estado durante los últimos dos años unos 150 millones de dólares por esa información.
El senador solicitó hoy al Departamento de Justicia investigar el hecho en un carta enviada a la fiscal general de EE.UU., Loretta Lynch.
Entre tanto, Terry Rhodes, director de DHSMV, negó las acusaciones en un comunicado.
La entidad estatal «no vende información sobre conductores vehículos», aseguró.
Señaló que se rigen por la Ley Federal de Protección de la Privacidad de los Conductores (DPPA) y las leyes de registros públicos de Florida.
