La Guardia Costera de Estados Unidos emitió un comunicado en el que informa que se suspendía la búsqueda de 5 balseros cubanos desaparecidos cerca de los Cayos de la Florida.
«La Guardia Costera suspendió la búsqueda de los cubanos en el agua a unas 50 millas de Little Torch Key el lunes, a la espera de nueva información.» dijo el comunicado.
La tripulación del guardacostas Pablo Valent rescató a nueve personas y recuperó un cuerpo. El domingo y el lunes, las cuadrillas recuperaron cinco cuerpos.
Un sobreviviente aseguró que el grupo salió de Playa de Jaimanitas, Cuba el 13 de noviembre con un gran grupo de personas y la embarcación volcó, dejándolo como único sobreviviente. Fue recogido por otro grupo de 18 cubanos, algunos de los cuales vestían chalecos salvavidas y ese bote también terminó volcándose.
