Un autobús escolar se precipitó por un barranco en una carretera cerca de la frontera de Florida con el estado de Alabama, lo que causó 20 heridos, y cobró la vida de una persona.

Se desconocen las causas del accidente, en la mañana del martes el ómnibus que trasladaba a un grupo de estudiantes de regreso de Disney World a la ciudad de Houston (Texas), se salió de la carretera y cayó por un barranco, indicó Huey Hoss Mack, alguacil del condado de Baldwin en rueda de prensa.

Los heridos fueron llevados rápidamente a una decena de hospitales de los condados de Escambia, al noroeste de Florida, y Baldwin y Mobile, en el estado de Alabama.

En el autobús viajaban estudiantes del Channelview High School, y fueron trasladados a los hospitales Sacred Heart, el Baptist y el West Florida, en los condados mencionados.

Las 45 personas que viajaban en el ómnibus fueron transportadas a los centros de emergencia, mediante helicóptero o ambulancia, según Mack el personal de primeros auxilios tuvo que utilizar cuerdas para llegar al lugar en el que había caído el vehículo.

No se tienen detalles de la identidad de los heridos, ni de la persona que perdió la vida en el siniestro.

La carretera Interestatal 10 se cortó en ambos sentidos.
