Agentes del FBI arrestaron al ex congresista cubanoamericano David Rivera, quien representó partes del área de Miami en el Congreso de 2011 a 2013, el lunes, dijeron las autoridades.
Rivera había estado bajo escrutinio por recibir un acuerdo de consultoría de $ 50 millones de la filial estadounidense de la compañía petrolera estatal de Venezuela.
Rivera, fue arrestado el lunes en el aeropuerto de Atlanta, dijo Marlene Rodríguez, vocera de la Oficina del Fiscal Federal en Miami. La funcionaria dijo que Rivera fue acusado formalmente por un gran jurado de Miami el mes pasado, pero ese documento permanece sellado y no pudo hablar sobre los cargos.
Rivera ha estado en el ojo del huracán durante más de dos años después de que se supo que recibió un contrato masivo de una filial estadounidense de la compañía petrolera estatal de Venezuela al mismo tiempo que el presidente Nicolás Maduro intentaba ganarse el favor de la Casa Blanca en los primeros días de la administración Trump.
Los abogados de Rivera hasta el momento no han comentado sobre el asunto.
