Llega al norte de la provincia de Ciego de Ávila, en Cuba, una embarcación con 253 haitianos a bordo, estos tenían como destino llegar a Estados Unidos pero la inclemencia del tiempo los obligó a guarecerse en Cuba.
Según información del diario oficialista Granma, en el numeroso grupo de haitianos viajaban 31 niños y 61 mujeres. También trascendió en la publicación que los migrantes haitianos fueron llevados a la Escuela Formadora de Profesores de Educación Física ‘Manuel Suarez’, conocida como ‘Ceballos 7’.
Una vez en el lugar fueron asistidos médicamente según corresponde, además fueron visitados por los dirigentes de la provincia Tomas Alexis Martín Venegas, gobernador de la provincia y Ania Francisco Malde, vicegobernadora.
El gobierno cubano organiza el retorno “organizado, seguro y voluntario” hacia Haití.
Otro caso similar ocurrió el 11 de diciembre en que también arribó en este caso a la provincia Granma un grupo de haitianos, atendidos en una escuela secundaria del territorio, entre el grupo había menores de edad.
Es común que migrantes haitianos que viajan en embarcaciones con destino a Estados Unidos, queden varados en costas cubanas debido a las condiciones adversas del mar, quedando frustrado su interés por un futuro mejor.
