La Administración Nacional Oceánica y Atmosférica (NOAA) de Estados Unidos y el Instituto de Meteorología (INSMET) cubano firmaron un acuerdo el miércoles para cooperar en la investigación sobre clima y meteorología.
El memorándum fue suscrito en Washington por el viceadministrador de la NOAA, el vicealmirante Manson Brown, y por el viceministro primero cubano de Ciencia, Tecnología y Medioambiente, Fernando González, según informó la parte cubana en un comunicado.
El objetivo del acuerdo es fomentar la investigación mutua y el intercambio de información en la predicción de huracanes, combate al cambio climático, contaminación atmosférica y oceanografía, entre otros aspectos relevantes en materia de meteorología y clima.
«Confiamos en que este paso sea el inicio de una relación científica sostenida, y de una colaboración superior entre la comunidad meteorológica de Cuba y EE.UU.», afirmó González, quien consideró los asuntos recogidos en el acuerdo «decisivos para avanzar hacia un desarrollo sostenible (…) a escala global».
