El Secretario de Estado de Estados Unidos, John Kerry, viajara a Cuba mañana 14 de agosto para la ceremonia de izamiento de la bandera donde tendrá después una apretada agenda.
Esta es la primera visita de un Secretario de Estado a Cuba desde marzo del año 1945, cuando Edward Reilley Stettinius, quien ejercía el cargo de canciller, bajo la presidencia de Franklin D. Roosevelt visitó brevemente la isla.
Kerry estará en Cuba solo un día y ni siquiera pasara la noche en la isla, la ceremonia oficial tendrá lugar en horas de la mañana donde el Secretario de Estado izara la bandera en la embajada acompañado de altos funcionarios del gobierno y miembros del congreso.
Tras el acto, Kerry tendrá una reunión con su homólogo cubano Bruno Rodríguez que será seguido por una conferencia de prensa conjunta tal y como sucedió en la ceremonia en Estados Unidos. A las 4 de la tarde dará inicio la recepción en la residencia del encargado de negocios de la Embajada de EEUU, Jeffrey de Laurentis, donde se realizará otro izado de bandera. A este acto si estarán invitados opositores al Gobierno de Cuba.
Hasta el momento no hay programada de manera oficial ninguna reunión con Raúl o Fidel Castro.
